A recent update indicates that fans may have to wait a bit for the streaming debut of Disney’s most recent animated feature picture, Wish.
As the Walt Disney Company celebrated the premiere of Wish, its 100th animated feature, it was a significant moment. When it was released in November 2022, the movie did poorly at the box office and was not well received by critics.
Wish should soon be available for streaming, given the positive response it has received. Many of Disney’s other animated films have found success onDisney+. The real question is when, though.
Disney+ Skips Wish in February Streaming Release Slate
Surprisingly, the film was left off of Disney+’s monthly streaming video list that was published on YouTube. The video included films that will debut on the platform in February 2024.
It was noticeably missing from the list of big releases that Disney+ has scheduled for February, including The Marvels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3. It may not be available for streaming in the next weeks, but there’s still a chance that the animated movie will arrive in February if Disney decides to pull it out at the last minute later in the month.
Online Streaming on Disney+
Wish was scheduled to release on Disney+ in late February, according to predictions based on Disney’s prior theatrical to streaming dates.
If Disney decides against releasing Wish on Disney+ this month, it might mean that the company is planning to extend the time between theatrical and streaming releases. This could be an attempt to entice people who may have grown accustomed to waiting for Disney films to stream on Netflix to return to theaters—a practice that was developed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Marvels, which debuted in theatres barely two weeks before Wish, is intriguing as it’s one of Disney+’s February streaming releases. This implies that Wish will most likely be added to the March batch if its planned late-February streaming date doesn’t materialise.
The Walt Disney Animation original TV series Iwájë, which premieres in late February, is another thing to think about. It’s probable that Disney is giving each Disney Animation project some breathing room rather than packing its release calendar with two projects at once.
Wish is currently available for digital purchase even though it hasn’t been released on Disney+ yet.
