Monarch: Legacy of Monsters significantly expanded the lore of Legendary’s MonsterVerse during its inaugural season on Apple TV+. The live-action series achieved considerable success, emerging as one of the streaming service’s major hits. Both the creators and actors in this latest kaiju narrative are enthusiastic about delving once again into the world of Godzilla, Kong, and others.
About Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, series creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction shared insights into Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Although the show has not been officially renewed at this point, they expressed having significant ideas if the series continues.
“We don’t have an order for a second season but we’re optimistic, there is more story to tell here. The short answer is that the MonsterVerse has a lot of monsters in it. We focused on Godzilla as the center character of season one, because it was the monster of Cate’s nightmares. There is a large cast of characters in the Toho universe and Kong is very important to the current crop of Legendary movies. I can’t speak as to what that potential story might be, but Kong is a character we want to bring into our world for sure.”
Monarch: The Russell Family Might Return
In a recent interview with The Wrap, Kurt Russell expressed his willingness, along with his son Wyatt, to return to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, stating, “Don’t know. That’s up to them and we’ll do it… Whatever. We’ll talk about it if they want to talk about it.”
However, bringing back Lee Shaw in both his past and present forms could pose a challenge, especially considering the conclusion of Season One. The kaiju season finale saw Lee trapped once again in the Hollow Earth. With the flashbacks covering Monarch’s origins, the inclusion of Shaw in the second season remains uncertain.
