There will be a special theater release for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Nevertheless, since 20th Century Studios is handling the distribution, it will appear on Disney+ or Hulu for streaming. However, there’s a strong possibility that Disney+ and Hulu may have combined into a single streaming app by the time it arrives on Netflix, given the news that Disney is acquiring Comcast’s remaining interest in Hulu.

What Is the Plot of ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’?

The upcoming film will take place years after the events of the reboot of the Caesar Trilogy. Although, the canon characters won’t be in it, including Caesar, Koba, Cornelia, Maurice, Rocket, and Nova.

While Caesar is still a spirit in the movie, most of his real relatives won’t be in this new chapter. Wes Ball said, “..if the last three movies were the Stone Age, here we get to see what happens when they enter the Bronze Age.”

Ball explained in a later Empire teaser that the movie would take place 300 years after Caeser’s death and that Noa, the main ape, wouldn’t know who Caesar was. “Part of his journey is a discovery of that legacy and its various interpretations. Noa has to make sense of what it all means.”

The official synopsis for the film from 20th Century Studios reads:

Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Owen Teague will play the role of Noa, the film’s ape, in place of Andy Serkis’s Caesar. Additional motion-capture actors in the film include Peter Macon as Raka, an orangutan who befriends Noa throughout his expedition, and Kevin Durand as Proximus Caesar.

Freya Allan will play Mae, the film’s human lead.
